Custom Drive Gear Sets for the Construction Industry

Westfield Machine, Inc. is a full-service provider of low-volume precision components manufactured according to the highest quality standards. We manufactured the heavy-duty drive gear set pictured here for use in the construction industry. Machined from 4340 alloy steel, the two drive gear measure 36” in length and feature a 15” outer diameter. We set up our milling equipment to execute a variety of machining strategies to cut the complex features with reliable precision while providing a smooth, defect-free 32 surface finish. Heat treated to achieve a 38/40 Rockwell hardness to ensure it would have the strength to withstand the high-load application, we finish machined the components to within ultra-tight ±.005” tolerances.

Numerous inspection activities conducted at all critical stages included hardness testing, mechanical testing, and measurement of all finished dimensions.
